John Tyas
Chief Executive Officer
John has held the position of CEO since May 2012. Reporting to the board of Avocados Australia, John’s role is to lead all facets of the organisation and implement plans agreed with the board. John holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Rural Technology) degree with honours and has worked in the horticulture industry since 1992. Originally an Extension Horticulturist, John has spent the majority of his career managing strategic research, development and marketing investments. Prior to joining Avocados Australia, John held a leadership role at Horticulture Australia Limited, overseeing strategic planning for industry marketing and R&D levy investment programs for Australian tropical horticulture industries.
John is passionate about… making a real difference for the people we work with. Building honest and trusting relationships with stakeholders and having good people around you is key. It’s great to work in an industry that has so many positives and such a bright future. I want to do everything I can to keep the industry progressing and to support avocado businesses to achieve their goals.
