Global Food Service Opportunities

Australia’s avocado industry is expanding its global reach, with strong opportunities emerging across premium foodservice markets in Asia and the Middle East. The following reports provide insights into market dynamics, consumer trends, and practical strategies to support export growth and strengthen Australia’s position in international foodservice channels.

Insights Summary

The executive summary provides a concise overview of the key insights and strategic recommendations from the Global Foodservice Opportunities project. It highlights the priority markets, major foodservice trends, and the opportunities for Australian avocados to grow their presence internationally.

Key themes include the increasing demand for healthy, premium ingredients, the influence of café culture, and the importance of consistency, quality, and reliable supply in foodservice procurement. While competition from lower-cost suppliers remains strong, Australian avocados are well positioned to compete through their premium quality, strong provenance, and sustainability credentials.

The summary also outlines the importance of building awareness through importer engagement and chef education, helping to establish Australian avocados as a trusted and preferred option in global foodservice markets.

The full report provides a comprehensive analysis of foodservice opportunities across five priority markets: the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Singapore, Malaysia, and Hong Kong. It combines trade data, market insights, and direct engagement with chefs, importers, and foodservice operators to identify clear pathways for growth.

The research highlights that while Australian avocados are gaining traction globally, foodservice penetration remains uneven. Significant opportunities exist to build awareness, strengthen distributor relationships, and expand into key foodservice channels. Australia’s competitive advantage lies in its consistent supply, premium quality, and “clean and green” provenance.

A phased approach to market development is recommended—starting with retail and importer engagement, followed by foodservice activation through chef partnerships and education, and ultimately embedding Australian avocados within established supply chains.
