WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?
The morning session is designed to provide practical insights into optimising irrigation to enhance productivity, profitability, and tree health in orchards.
During this session, key topics such as managing canopy size through irrigation, integrating irrigation with nutrition via fertigation, and identifying critical irrigation periods during flowering and fruit set will be covered.
Practical aspects, including different irrigation types, the impact of soil on irrigation strategies, and tailoring irrigation systems to meet the specific demands of avocado trees, will be explored.
After morning tea, participants will learn about assessing and maintaining irrigation systems for optimal distribution and efficiency, deciding when and how much to irrigate, and using technology to measure soil moisture and manage diseases effectively.
Following lunch, the afternoon farm walk offers a hands-on experience, teaching participants how to identify signs of water stress in trees, accurately install and verify soil moisture sensors, and make informed decisions on irrigation zoning and sensor placement.
