Japan 2020/21 export season registrations

The Australian Government has opened applications for farms and packhouses for the export of avocados to Japan in the 2020/21 season, and Avocados Australia has prepared a step-by-step guide for growers and packhouses.

Farm and packhouse managers wanting to export to Japan must download the application form (and submit the completed application to Avocados Australia Export Coordinator Joy Tang - details below) by 5pm AEST, Monday 3 August 2020. Late submissions will not be accepted.

All information in the application (for example, ABN numbers, contact details, accredited property maps and addresses) must be complete and correct or the application may not be accepted.

You can read the Industry Advice Notice from the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment by clicking here. This page has additional information and links to the required forms.

Avocados Australia has also compiled a step-by-step guide for growers and packhouses, as well as compiling specific Japan and export resources, including the recording from the recent market access workshop. Click here for this article.

(You will need to sign into the Best Practice Resource to access the step-by-step guide, and then navigate to the Export module, or use the link above. Registering for the BPR is free for members of the Australian avocado industry.)

Specific market requirements
Only fresh avocado (Persea americana) fruit of the Hass cultivar are permitted to be exported to Japan. MAFF protocol conditions apply to fresh Hass avocado sourced from officially recognised areas free from Queensland fruit fly (Qfly) in Western Australia and Riverland (South Australia).
Japan recognises Tasmania to be free from both Qfly and Mediterranean fruit fly, therefore exports of fresh Hass avocado sourced from Tasmania are not subject to the protocol requirements.
