Australian avocados take to the streets in Hong Kong
Australian avocados are once again taking centre stage in Hong Kong, with a dynamic food truck activation bringing Shepard avocados directly to consumers as part of the latest export marketing campaign.
While Australia already holds a strong market position in Hong Kong, per-capita avocado consumption remains relatively low at around 1.2 kg per person, compared with approximately 5 kg in Australia. This presents a clear opportunity to grow the category by increasing awareness and encouraging more frequent, everyday usage.
To address this, the current campaign focuses on engaging consumers earlier in their purchase journey — before they enter the supermarket. While retail partnerships with major chains such as Wellcome and ParknShop continue to play a critical role, the addition of a high-impact consumer activation layer is designed to build excitement, visibility and intent.
A key feature of this approach is the return of the Australian Avocados food truck 🚚. Following strong engagement in previous campaigns, the truck is once again travelling to high foot-traffic locations across Hong Kong, offering sampling, education and interactive brand experiences.
At the heart of the activation is a locally tailored version of the Aussie brunch favourite — avocado on toast. This hero serve has been adapted to suit local tastes while showcasing the unique qualities of Shepard avocados, particularly their firmer texture and slower browning, making them ideal for foodservice and fresh consumption.
Operating daily from 10am to 3pm, the food truck provides consumers with a direct and memorable brand experience, encouraging trial and reinforcing positive perceptions of Australian avocados. From 3pm onwards, the truck transitions into a mobile out-of-home advertising asset, extending its reach across key precincts and maintaining visibility into the evening.
Early results from the activation have been highly encouraging, with strong consumer engagement, positive feedback and ideal weather conditions supporting turnout. In addition, live social media content shared via the Australian Avocados Asia Instagram channel has helped amplify the campaign’s reach and impact.
This activity plays an important role in supporting broader retail and digital marketing efforts, creating a cohesive campaign that builds awareness, drives trial and strengthens preference for Australian Shepard avocados in the Hong Kong market.
