ChamberLink Exchange 2026 panel at Food & Drink Malaysia

Trade perspectives: Building stronger export partnerships for Australian avocados

Strong export markets depend on partnership, shared market knowledge and collaboration across the supply chain – it’s much more than selling fruit.

These themes shaped the ChamberLink Exchange panel at Food & Drink Malaysia 2026 by SIAL. Avocados Australia General Manager – Southeast Asia, KC Liew, joined government, import, distribution, marketing and procurement representatives to discuss sustainable international trade partnerships.

KC shared what Malaysian buyers look for in fresh produce suppliers and how Australian growers can strengthen their position in this important export market.

Looking beyond the first shipment

Premium fruit may attract initial interest, but lasting success relies on consistent supply, reliable quality, aligned specifications and clear communication.

“An attractive product is not necessarily a supply-ready opportunity,” KC said.

“Sustainable category growth requires the entire supply chain to work together, from production planning and post-harvest handling through to retail execution and consumer confidence.”

Avocados Australia General Manager – Southeast Asia KC Liew joined industry leaders at ChamberLink Exchange 2026 to discuss the importance of supply readiness, trusted partnerships and long-term category development in building sustainable international trade opportunities for Australian avocados.

Representing Australian growers

Malaysia is Australia’s third-largest avocado export market and offers significant growth potential. Maintaining Australia’s leading position requires regular engagement with importers, retailers and industry stakeholders.

Forums such as ChamberLink Exchange connect the industry with businesses sourcing, distributing and promoting Australian avocados, while building insight into quality, seasonality, cold-chain management and category development.

Supporting sustainable category growth

Avocados Australia supports market development through retail training, quality initiatives, promotions, crop updates and consumer education. Together, these activities improve handling and eating quality, build awareness and encourage repeat purchase.

Sustainable export success is shared: growers produce premium fruit, exporters manage supply, importers and retailers reach consumers, and industry organisations create conditions for growth.

Building the future together

As export markets become more competitive, Australia’s position will depend on collaboration across the value chain.

By bringing government, importers, distributors, retailers and industry leaders together, Avocados Australia can advocate for growers, strengthen commercial relationships and develop priority markets – helping Australian avocados deliver long-term value through sustainable export growth.
