Hass season wraps up on a high note as Shepard season kicks off

The quality of Australian-grown avocados remained very high throughout February, climbing to 97% acceptable fruit, with an increase over January’s 96% and December’s 91% result. Western Australian Hass avocados have performed exceptionally well during this period, showing significant improvement compared to the same time last year (see image). Notably, quality continued to improve toward the end of the season. Internal defects remained very low when compared to the 12-month average, with body rots being the most prevalent defect, followed by bruising. The first North Queensland Shepard samples for the year were assessed in February, with seven samples (70 fruit) assessed across Melbourne and Brisbane. 100% of the fruit assessed was acceptable, marking a strong start to the season.
