Regional Forum – Tristate – online

The Tristate Avocado Regional Forum will be held online, on Wednesday, 27 May. The main topic is understanding flowering and maximising fruit set, presented by Spanish avocado researcher Dr Iñaki Hormaza.

Dr Iñaki (José Ignacio) Hormaza
Dr Hormaza works for the Spanish National Research Council and will be joining us from Spain. Since 2003 he has been responsible for the Department of Subtropical Fruits of the IHSM La Mayora. Dr Hormaza has worked in the studies of reproductive biology in avocados. His work in this field is to optimise fruit set and yield using the natural strategies of the plant. His work and presentation will focus on the following areas:
a) flower development and pollination;
b) pollen-pistil interaction;
c) fruit set and initial fruit development.

Regional Forum – CNSW – going online

MOVING ONLINE – NEW INFORMATION!

The Regional Forum will be held on Wednesday, 29 April 2020.

As you already know, we have had to cancel the plans for an in-person Central New South Wales Regional Avocado Forum on 1 April.

Instead, we will now host an online event on Wednesday, 29 April. Topics to be addressed include a COVID-19 Industry update and Fruitspotting bug management.

For those who RSVP, we will be sending out instructions on how to join and participate in the webinar on the day. If you have already sent in an RSVP, please let us know if you wish to attend the online event. We hope to make a recording available in the BPR afterwards.

The 2020 Avocado Regional Forum is being relocated from Pemberton to Manjimup, due to overwhelming interest in the preceding AvoSkills event (which has been over-subscribed).

Directions to orchard walk – It is approximately 22km to the Orchard from Hall

  • Drive into Blackbutt from Brisbane down the main street – Coulson St heading to Kingaroy
  • Passed the servo – turn left at Radnor Hotel on the corner heading towards Crows Nest. This is the Crows Nest/Mt Binga Rd
  • Keep going past Googa Camp, through forestry – road keeps changing from dirt to bitumen
  • Go passed the Touchwood sign and Wodonga Park sign on your right
  • About 500m after Wodonga the road bears left to Crows Nest or right to Cooyar and Mt Binga Camp. Bear right and hard right towards Cooyar – go passed the sign for Jimara on your right
  • Touchwood is the next entrance on the right (1671 Cooyar/Mt Binga Rd) at the top of the rise – there will be a sign on the day
  • As you come in the gate, please park near the water tanks on the left

The second AvoSkills workshop, covering the “A” to “O” of avocado orchard management, will be held in Pemberton on 10 & 11 March.

  • Should I attend? In this practical, fun and hands-on workshop, we will tackle the essentials of growing good quality fruit productively. The workshop is tailored toward growers who have recently joined the avocado industry, re-sellers, farm supervisors and farm managers.
  • Will we be in the field? Morning sessions will be held indoors, with practical afternoon sessions at nearby local orchards.
  • Location: Manjimup Wellness Centre (note updated venue, the original venue in Pemberton was too small for the final numbers)

AUSVEG and PMA Australia-New Zealand Limited (PMA A-NZ) have again united to deliver the joint industry conference and Trade Show, Hort Connections 2021. Hort Connections 2021 will be held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre 7-9 June 2021.

Christmas office closure
