Hort Connections 2019, V

AUSVEG and PMA Australia-New Zealand Limited (PMA A-NZ) have again united to deliver the joint industry conference and Trade Show, Hort Connections 2019.

Hort Connections 2019 will be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre 24–26 June 2019. Members in the horticulture industry will be inspired to aim high, with the theme ‘Growing our Food Future’ headlining the conference.

Avocados Australia holiday closure

The Avocados Australia office will be closed for the festive season. The office will be closed from Monday, 24 December, re-opening on Monday, 7 January 2019.

Orchard Intensification and Robotics Field Day

The Queensland Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries is hosting a field day at Walkamin on 8 November 2018.

Topics will include:

  • the Small Tree High Productivity Initiative Update,
  • robotics and automation in tree crops,
  • transforming mango futures,
  • low medium and high density plantings, limb bending, pruning & trellising training, measuring and improving light interception in the orchard, yield assessments, vigour reducing rootstocks,
  • imaging technology for mapping flowering & fruit load and automated harvest,
  • insect population dynamics in intense systems, and
  • the economics of trellis systems.

Guests will be required to use footbath prior to entry onto farm. Please wear covered shoes and sun protective clothing.

    To consider and approve the minutes of the 14th AGM held on 9th November 2017.
  2. Chairman and CEO’s Report
    To receive the Chairman and CEO’s Report for 2017-2018.
  3. Election Results 2018
    Advise the results for the 2018 election.
  4. Financial Statements
    Presentation and consideration of the Financial Report and Directors’ Report of Avocados Australia Limited for the year ended 30 June 2018.

The first of a series of dates for HARPS training courses have been set, for Western Australia and Queensland. At the time this notice was added to the Avocados Australia website, further dates were being planned for other locations.

  • Four hazards (biological, chemical, physical, allergen) and their sources;
  • Three elements of a food safety program (facilities and equipment, HACCP and pre-requisite programs);
  • Food safety risk assessment and HACCP process; and
  • HARPS elements in practice.

The course has been designed to reflect the immediate needs for producers to meet the HARPS requirements, using case studies and practical examples where possible. In addition, the course will include Food Safety Risk assessment and the HACCP process, which will qualify as ‘HACCP refresher training’ as stipulated under HARPS Section 5.2 (this will save needing to attend a separate HACCP Refresher course).

Attendees will be provided with a handbook with the slide presentation and provision for note taking as well as supporting documents for exercises and case studies (all to keep). The course will also provide example templates and pro-formas that attendees can use to adapt to their own specific activities (as requested during the Awareness Sessions).

The fee for the course is $680 per person (plus GST). To ensure each attendee is able to get the most out of the training, the HARPS team would like to cap the number of attendees to 15 per daily session.
